How Google auto-suggest sees the Welsh Assembly:

Try it for yourself.

If you do that search you will also come up with

W/assembly israel
W/assemby islam

but perhaps your version is the most accurate.

Anonymous said...

228FPA, you need to type "welsh assembly is " with the space after the word "is"

Anonymous said...

No wonder they want to rebrand the Welsh Assembly as the 'Welsh Government'...

Thank you Anon 09:31 - I think I did specify "if you do that (THAT) search.." implying that Googling "welsh assembly is ..." (as I said if you do that search) you will also get

W/ass isreal

w/ass islam

I didn't really think I needed to write it all out - seems that I might have to from now on.

Google Autofinish is really good, isn't it? Another classic example is if you type in "Gordon Brown" and then add a space.

Its first suggestion is "Gordon Brown Estate Agents". Brilliant on so many levels...

Tee hee!

For 'Anglesey Council is', you get 'isle' auto added. Almost as wrong as 'Isle of Anglesey Council'.

Oh dear Druid.

Did you think about trying "David Cameron is " before posting this?

"David Cameron is an idiot" is the first suggestion. There's plenty of evidence to support that idea.

"Nick Clegg is " is better still. Suggested options start with "a Tory", "a prick", "finished" and "a traitor".

I'd try it with a Labour politician if I could remember any.

You are so right - it is a joke.

In the last year:
Self-catering holiday businesses denied non domestic rate qualification unless they have over 80 bookings per year. So much for supporting small business.

Granny annexes now rated as seperate dwellings to rake in yet more Council tax.

What happened to Plaid's commitment to scrap Council tax?

Anonymous said...

Les, Plaid have to be in office with a majority to deliver manifesto pledges. As it is the people of Wales have decided that the things you don't like are actually what they want hence why they have returned them with a bogger number of seats and thus a more supported mandate of what they were already doing.

The future of We;sh politics for at least the next 3 decades is Labour or Labour/Plaid coalitions.

Get used to it.

"As it is the people of Wales have decided that the things you don't like are actually what they want"

Rubbish. Since this sort of back door revenue raising was never on anybody's manifesto, the people of Wales never had a choice in the matter. It is simply typical of all the main political parties. Say wonderful things prior to elections, and then carry on as usual.
Even those entirely on benefit would accept the wisdom of NOT penalising small businesses.

Les, It's not rubbish. You might not like it but it's true. What has been going on has been going on since BEFORE the last WAG election. It was not a secret, any one who was interested in it in the slightest could vote accordingly.

As for Manifestos, no party puts everything in, just the important stuff and nothing you mention is important enough to be in a manifesto. Labour are behaving the way they did before the election with the only difference being that they are now more powerful and as a result able to do it bigger and faster if they feel like it.

But lets look at some of what you bring up. Granny Annexes are seperate dwellings. There is no difference between a Granny Annex and splitting your house into a HMO. If you don't want to pay 2 (or more) lots of council tax then don't do it. It's not like they only started doing this yesterday is it. Little hint - if you are going to build one, you'll pay council tax on it. It's pretty pointless whining about it when you knew it would happen.

Likewise the non-domestic rate for self catering. If a site didn't know that would happen then they have either not done their homework or their business model is badly wrong.

Ah yes, manifesto promises:

A “Member of Parliament” dies. His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance. ‘Welcome to heaven,’ says St. Peter. ‘But we seldom see a high official around these parts, so we’re not sure what to do with you. What you’ll have to do is spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity’
St. Peter escorts him to hell. He finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him. Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people. They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.
‘Now it’s time to visit heaven’ says St Peter. So, 24 hours pass with the MP joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing.
After a day St. Peter returns. ‘Well, then, you’ve spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity’. The MP reflects for a minute, then he answers: ‘Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell. ‘
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down to hell. The doors of the elevator open and he’s in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.
‘I don’t understand, ’stammers the MP’. Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there’s just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened? ‘
The devil looks at him, smiles and says, ‘Yesterday we were campaigning... Today you voted.

Puck: hahaha - misreprentation isn't confined to politics though, as this report shows:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-13678627

"Japan doubles Fukushima radiation leak estimate"

"Japan has more than doubled its estimate of radiation that escaped from the tsunami-hit Fukushima nuclear plant ... meltdowns took place in three reactors more quickly than earlier believed".

I understand from other sources that 'official' up-to-date monitoring figures for atmospheric radiation levels are not available.

So IWJ is "on holiday" for the State opening of the Assembly. What a complete disgrace. What an insult to his voters and the people of Ynys Mon. Shameful.

An Eye On... said...

No more shameful than the Prime Minister being on holiday while our pilots are at war in Libya.

Anyways - Prom. Can you explain to me why the East-West connector that will link Ireland's electric grid to the UK's is being built on Deeside when at the same time we are building a nuclear powerstation here on Anglesey. Being as the sheer volume of power this will produce far exceeds North Wale's requirements, would it not have made more sense to build the East-West connector here, only 40 miles from Dublin?

Richard Sletzer said...

THE RED FLAG: Yes I too am uncomfortable that "Dave" should have been sunning himself not a million miles from Libya while we are fighting a war that he started.

However perhaps you and I can also agree on something else - the unpardonable conduct of Ieuan Wyn Jones, the elected representative of the people of Anglesey, who deliberately failed to attend yesterday's official opening of the Assembly by the Queen.

IWJ tried to explain away his absence by saying "I had already made arrangements to be away before the date for the official opening had been made and I had taken steps to inform the representatives of the royal family that I would be away during this week." ....I don't believe a word of that toadying tripe. Four of his fellow Welsh Nationalists also deliberately stayed away from the ceremony.

The question now is whether IWJ realises he is actually the representative of the people of Anglesey. On a personal basis he can insult the Assembly and the Queen if he wants to - he has every right so to do. But in this case it is NOT a matter of his personal choice. The majority of the people of Anglesey probably don't support the Assembly either - but they DO support the Monarchy. As an AM ,IWJ is elected to do what Anglesey people instruct him to do - not to publicly parade his own warped prejudices and dislikes.

He has now taken it upon himself , on behalf of ALL of the people Anglesey, to deliver a calculated insult to the Monarch and the British state.

It makes all that chat on this blog about "Royal Anglesey" and the tourist dividend of the Royal Wedding all ring a bit hollow.

IWJ should now be impeached and called to account by his constituents.

228FPA said...

Being that IWJ is so important I'm sure the HRH The Queen was devastated by his absence - if she noticed that is.

Hardly the most charismatic of men is he? You could actually miss him in an empty room - I don't suppose the Queen lost any sleep over him or the others who stayed away. It simply showns their ignorance as AMs and disregard to their electors.

I wonder if this lot ink out the Queen's head on our currentcy as well?

Being as Plaid's long term aim is to leave the UK, then it would be a tad hypocritical to attend I would have thought.

Disrespect. Hmm!

I noticed that not one member of the Windsor clan could sing 'Hen Wlad fy Nhadau'. Wales, I believe, is part of the UK, and our anthem should therefore be given the respect it deserves.

Charles was pathetically trying to mouth something. It reminded me of John Redwood's great performance at the Welsh Tory Conference a few years back.

Are the Windsors simply unable, unwilling, or too arrogant to learn a few lines of Welsh.

I do recall however that the head of the family did manage to utter a few words in Gaelige, last month.

That, of course, was a proper state visit. The trip to Cardiff yesterday was merely an minor internal colonial inconvenience.

Someone should have a word with the Palace regarding this matter.

Trech gwlad nag arglwydd.

Richard Sletzer said...

ANONYMOUS: That's not the point at all. Sure, Plaid is the Welsh Nationalist Party (and why don't call them by that name?) and they do indeed want to withdraw from the UK.

....However if a Plaid politician is elected as an AM or and MP he or she must represent ALL the people living in that constituency - whether they voted Plaid or not, or whether they voted at all. IWJ - like it or - is the public representative of all 69,000 "Anglesonians" - not the handful of idiots (9,969) who actually voted for him.

This is why IWJ is constitutionally misguided in believing he is entitled to behave as he has. He is not

Labour AM Ms Neagle said: "It's completely disrespectful for a party leader to shun the official opening of the fourth session of the assembly to take some time off.

"The fact that Ieuan Wyn Jones needs a rest is symptomatic of the current state of his party.

"Plaid Cymru has looked tired for a considerable amount of time."

This is of absolutely no importance whatsoever. Fiddling while Rome burns.

If you find his non-attendance offensive then don't vote for him. Do you actually think Plaid voters will not vote Plaid because of this or do you think they'll look at you as a hysterical fool?

Me prsonally I couldn't give a toss either way. It is simply a non-event. Of importance only to people with nothing better to whine about.

He has now taken it upon himself , on behalf of ALL of the people Anglesey, to deliver a calculated insult to the Monarch and the British state...well good for him, he will probably get more votes next time round then (shows your ignorance of the Welsh Psyche and of British ignorance of anything not Royal and English per see).

NEWS FROM THE KREMLIN TODAY.
HUNG DRAWN and QUARTERED.

At the meeting of commissioners, it was resolved to strip Councillor,s who are member's of the Authorities Planning Committee, of their rights to take part in the decision making process on any Planning Application in the wards they represent. This in one clean sweep believed to have stigmatized every member of the Committee as not to be trusted!

More to follow.

Serves them right. The corrupt ones will be punished and the ones who knew what they were doing but said nothing will be punished as well.

They'll find out now that all these people who thought they were 'jolly good chaps' while they could do a bit of string-pulling for them, will now dump them walk away lest the stench stick.
