Anglesey County Council Leader, Clive McGregor, responding to the news that Anglesey could potentially have the first new nuclear power plant in Britain:

"Its like a little village winning the right to hold the Olympics!"

  1. Er? Doesn't he know that there's been one here for many years - and that not all of us have been very happy about it - let alone getting a new one?

  2. I think ideally we would all prefer not to have a nuclear power station on our doorstep - but I'm afraid that economically this Island will be in severe trouble if Wylfa B does not go ahead.

  3. Can't argue with that, "economically" - but what price will we have to pay in other spheres?

  4. That remains to be seen. But then again we don't appear to have suffered any particularly adverse effects from hosting the current power station in Wylfa since 1971.

  5. So it will leave you with a huge debt and a white elephant that everyone hates? As it did in Salt Lake City, Athens, Moscow, Sarajevo, and probably East London 2013?

    Not the happiest of parallels, I would have said - even if it is maybe apt.
