Wales This Week takes on Anglesey Council again...

The ITV investigative news programme, 'Wales This Week' -- which previously delved extensively into 'problems' at Anglesey County Council -- is poised to make an update on the situation on Anglesey. Focussing on the 'recovery', it will be screened next Thursday evening (4th November).

Apparently the news has caused some considerable disquiet at the council with senior figures warning that it may even damage the recovery. All I can say is that it must be a very fragile recovery if some extra media scrutiny is threatening to derail it.

I also hear that several of the main protagonists in the recovery process have refused to be interviewed by ITV -- a decision I find baffling. I urge them to reconsider: they should have the confidence to put across forcefully their side of the argument. If they do not and refuse to appear then it will not only be a PR disaster for the recovery, it will also naturally make Anglesey residents believe they have something to hide.

The Wales This Week programme will also be the revealing of the results of a confidential ITV poll of all participating councillors on their opinion of interim MD, David Bowles' performance, and whether they believe the recovery plan will solve the council's problems. Expect serious fireworks inside the council if the results are not positive.

DB has arrogantly refused to be interviewed !
Is he just camera shy.....or what has he to hide....?

This a devious ploy by some, in opposition, to try and deflect attention from the Amlwch misdeed story ?

Anonymous said...

Opposition indeed?

For the last 12 months David Bowles has done nothing but abuse and bad mouth the infamous two. Even going as far as calling Cllr Durkin a "scandal monger".

He's sent bulling letters to all Councillors to the point where we now see the council being run by fear. Yet when given the opportunity to comment in the flesh he hasn't got the bottle showing he's nothing more than a two bit bullies.

16.44 "Infamous" ?
Your word means "notoriously bad".
Accurately described, old boy.

eh? Why? It was on the telly. Everyone heard JAJ accuse Paddy

Dazzler - that doesn't mean the accusation should be baselessly repeated.

I suspect it will also lead us to believe my long-held contention that leopards cannot change their spots. I fear the problems at Llangefni are symptomatic of traditional Anglesey society, and real change will take a much longer time than anyone believes.

Roll on Wales This Week!

I would kindly ask all commenters to be very careful what they write. We are getting close to crossing a line - beyond which there will be deletions.

I agree Druid.
It doesn't take much to bring the sicko's ou, does it?

What! More Rubbish??? Shame it was not on a Wednesday, thats when they collect trash in our area.

Pity the reporter does not write,
but then it is dodgy when they burst and the repercussions can be distressing, or leave a nasty taste in the mouth!!!

Down the road the Bay Cafe
now a good place to eat.
He is coming soon for interviews
he can sit there on the bench
We will get more distrorted facts,

"DB has arrogantly refused to be interviewed"! So has Clive McGregor.

First they wanted to know what questions they were going to be asked in writing before they would agree to be interviewed. Then having received the questions they said no, and refused to be Interviewed.

This is manner from heaven for some and a kick in the teeth for recovery and the residents of Anglesey.

It's no longer a matter of what have they got to hide but more to the point. How much?

"refused to be interviewed"

You can't be held to account for what you haven't said.

DB and CMcG, and the Council as a whole, owe US the people of Ynys Mon, the honesty and transparency that should be the precondition of anyone holding public office...why do they arrogantly refuse to be interviewed by ITV....why not use the unique PR opportunity to explain and justify whats good and positive about their supposed efforts at recovery....or are they lacking in something....honesy and conviction perhaps ?
We are entitled to draw our own conclusions.
I expected better from CMcG, if not DB.
Its not too late Clive ??

Having caused so much controversy in naming and shaming Councillors without any definitive reasons, abusing and threatening Councillors publicly, it seems that David Bowles, Clive McGregor and his Alliance are nothing but a bunch of cowards, hiding behind their unworkable "Term Of Engagement" designed to Breach Human Rights and control by fear.

I now think that the Council has bigger problems than ever, all brought on since David Bowles's arrival.

"You can't be held to account for what you haven't said"

The thing is that they have said, and said plenty. Now there being asked to comment on what they have said, they refuse to do so.
Time to go, me thinks.

If Clive McGregor did the right thing now and told Bowles where to stuff his kind of Recovery, I can't imagine one Cllr not coming out to support him.

I'm sure we'll all watch the programme - but I wonder if the Druid would consider placing a complete transcript of it here on-line for future reference?

Its all very well and proper to investigate incompetent governance at the top of IACC....let it happen...but lets not forget to also investigate and report on the Nolan-deficient and unethical conduct of individual members, where there is evidence !

19.11....that, my friend, would cause Carl Sargent to suspend the Council and install the Recovery Board until an election....is that what we want ?

Of course not my friend.
No more than we want the kind of dictatorship and tyranny David Bowles deals in.

DB is a robust professional troubleshooter, here to do a difficult job, to turn the Council around, to knock heads together,to neutralise obstructives, and yes, he will inevitably offend some people on the way...and yes those people will try and undermine his every move, after all this is Anglesey, and our elected friends are steeped in the dark arts....the Recovery Board and WAG, and the Alliance, all believe that progress is being made, albeit slowly.
Lets not spoil it !
David Bowles and CMcG should appear on ITV and speak up !!

Anonymous said...

Yes they should.
It's this failure on their part that is creating them such a problem. However, I have yet to see the proof that they haven't given an interview, just hear say? But if they haven't and they don't, well they deserve every thing they get.

You have a very vivid imagination of what Bowles is doing here. He's here to HELP Anglesey County Council to move forward, not to Knock heads together or abuse and threaten people. If we were to believe that his remit including Knocking heads together and neutralising obstructives. When is he going to start?

Anonymous said...

Well, you know, I've always said that half the problem on Anglesey is that the electorate keep returning eejits to power.

If anyone in public office refuses to meet the media, that is tantamount to censorship - they prevent open reporting by not participating. That is not what Anglesey wants to see of its Council, particularly Bowles, who has simple been placed here on a premise that he is a superhero.

My advice? Boycott McGregor's tick-box attempts at placating the Recovery Board with his travelling circus of 'Hawl i Holi' sessions. Mind you, hardly anyone was going to them, anyway. Have they simply died now, by the way?

As a reporter will always say: the audience can judge for themselves what a non-comment or non-appearance means in truth.

Very positive and constructive meeting today of the Council with the recovery Board !
Well done lads, keep it up.

I guess you also believe in Fairy Tales. What you would get from such interviews is exactly what a TV company could squeeze past the lawyers, twist and cut the commentaries and edit to the degree that one gets such a slant as the media like. You would not truth, facts or anything positive. If positive was the reality, why has there been absolutely no effect from the previous series of slacious drivel?

Well done Mr Bowles and Mr McGregor, you are above such soap opera nonsense, just keep doing the day jobs we appreciate you.

Rhosneigir By-election: The Library is to be closed by Anglesey Council however the word on the street is that a deal may have already been sealed between the Leader and RD one candidate.

The library has a stay of execution (RD's main campaign topic) because he could join The Leaders Cabinet thereby assuring power to the Leader for the time being.

Apparently pre-orchestrated by our very own "inexperienced" Leader - was his hand held by the MD?

This is an absolute joke council.

Anonymous said...

Clive McGregor IS going very soon.

Anonymous said...

"Rhoneigir By-election"
Not another bloody Independent without any kind of mandate. Or is RD just another one of Clive McGregor's puppets who's not got the bottle to say so?

Anonymous said...

Don't know what planet 20:40 living on. The whole meeting was based on breaching the Human Rights Act. Shame on you.

Anonymous said...

"This is an absolute joke council."

It took you this long to figure that out?

What will get Anglesey Council back to its old ways very soon is the need to take controversial decisions - cuts in other words. You think this lot are going to 'act together' and for the 'benefit of the whole island' then? No chance.

19.46 Sorry, but you have too low an opinion of yourself, and of US the Welsh...we are of sterner stuff...some of us !

Anonymous said...

The Welsh have betrayed themselves again... The Welsh Assembly have let us all down.. the Paddy French brigade will have a field day when the programme comes out, but the problems will still remain...and it's our own fault, we elected them, we allowed them to carry on as if the Council was their own wallet, we can only blame ourselves, and I have yet to see any Welsh fighting spirit, as far as I can see it doesn't exist, all talk.

Anonymous said...

The best way for this Island to destroy itself is to do nothing, let the Welsh do it themselves then the immigrants can take over.

Anonymous said...

There's no wonder all of the political parties on Anglesey are laughing at the people, they know none of them will do anything to stop the rot, there's no one willing or able to fight back, these politicians who skim and lie, these politicians who take and make decisions that destroy lives, destroy livelyhoods, know that they can get away with anything, do you know why? There is NO-ONE on this Island with the balls to stand up to stop them, this blog, should be called the Druid's whingers and moaners blog, because this is all they do, whinge, moan and do NOTHING else, no wonder Anglesey deserves to be laughed at, no one cares anymore, not even the Druid, come back to protect Anglesey, get real Druid, your only in it for yourself, where are the revolutionaries, for God's sake, we are all able to live, without being treated like benefit spongers!!

And your proposal for direct action is .... ?

Brawd o Amlwch said...

We do not know what to expect from Paddy French's programme, lets wait and see.
But we hope its not just a critical piece about the governance of IACC, merited as it may or may not be....depends on your viewpoint...no, we should be more interested in an exposure of another sort...the exposure of individual member misconduct and the flouting of Nolan principles....and we know who we mean !
