"And it gives me huge pleasure to be introducing to this relationship [with the RNLI] someone who is not only about to join the family but is also about to become an Anglesonian."

We are all Anglesonians now...
We should offer a double vote of thanks to Prince William and Kate Middleton for not only choosing to carry out their first official public engagement together on their new home -- thus delivering Ynys Môn acres of free media coverage -- but also for so publicly name-checking the island too:

Pass the bucket
Stick "anglesonian" into Google right now and it says "did you mean 'angled onion'".
Well of course not, if I want to find Medwyn the Vegetable and his fine onions, I know where to look.
I've never heard that Anglesonian word before, but there are lots of mentions of it on Google already (albeit with many duplicates).
It looks like a fine day for all involved. An excellent start for the royal couple (even for those like me who aren't great fans in general).
Hopefully there'll be plenty more in it for the good people of Anglesey.

far better if he'd said, we are all "Moch Mon"
Of the initial comments on here.......we are a grudging miserable lot....liven up folks ??
It was worth every minute, I was proud to be from Anglesey today.
Where in England is Anglesonian? It
I was in tears.
You could'nt buy this much PR for the island , lets hope the IoACC Tourism folk get a grip and use it wisely
Good on them I say
Great PR and the sun shone as usual!
Utter crap William
Today we should all be proud to be Anglesonians !! Prince Williams has done more to promote Anglesey than any PR costing millions of pound. Today Anglesey "Mon Mam Cymru"a little island will be known all over the world, never before have we had such publicity.
Croeso cynnes iawn i William a Kate i Sir Fon !!!
Un o Fon
Brilliant. They could both charm the socks off a very besocked foot!
I am not a Number
I am a Anglesey Onion
Definition - Anglesonian - The other end of the social spectrum from an Old Etonian?
Excellent PR for the Island, it's on MSN, sky etc and beamed round the world all in the USA will be lapping it up, well done
so was mad cow disease.
Nothing like being positive is there, all the negative comments Bob Cratchett eat your heart out
I heard someone on the radio complaining that 'Anglesonian' was the wrong term, but couldn't actually say what the correct term was for someone from Anglesey.
A bit like some of you, I suspect.
I'm putting forward 'Anglesais' for the English speakers, and 'Moners' for the Welsh. Pronounce them how you like.
Good there are some miserable barstewards on here, makes me ashamed to be 'angleseonian’
When his old man inherits the throne, he will become Prince Of Wales. Do you not think therefore he should have used a welsh term and not a made-up english one to describe an inhabitant? Just to show solidarity like?

Call them what they really are and don't beat about the bush.
Lifeless, do nothing but moan, got nothing going for themselves, cretins.
O'h I do fell better for that.
"ANGLESONIAN" - Prince William will, no doubt, be devastated to learn that I'm not 100% happy being called an "Anglesonian" - even though I was born and bred on the island.
In fact I've never heard the term "Anglesonian" before. I guess it's derivative of "Scillonian" - a native of the Scilly Isles.
He could, of course, have used the traditional Welsh term for Anglesey natives - "Moch Mon" - but perhaps he was advised against that. (I don't care for that term either because of its perjorative overtones.)
I do agree with Paul though. Anglesey - so often left off simplified maps of the UK - is now well and truly ON the map.
Perhaps the Prince and future Princess should now awarded the Freedom of Island... and perhaps while he's at it, Prince William can restore the historic status of "Royal Borough" to the island's righful county town - Beaumaris.
In fact it might not be a bad idea to co-opt him onto IoACC. After all he's doing more for Anglesey than many other councillors there.
Maybe the firm could give Newborough to Kate as a wedding present - there is an historical precedent.
