Quote of the Day

A senior councillor's reply today when I asked whether the conclusions of Monday's Recovery Board away day meeting with David Bowles at Treaddur Bay were known yet:

"What do I know? I'm just a county councillor..."

So we're all still in the dark then. One thing does seem clear though: with each day that passes the likelihood of the commissioners being sent in seems to be diminishing (touch wood). So much for Carl Sargeant's stern warning eleven months ago that Anglesey County Council was in the "Last Chance Saloon"...

Make no mistake the jobs done and dusted.

Clive McGregor's out.
The new council will consist of a Labour/Plaid coalition with John Chorlton as Leader and Bob Parry as his Deputy.
Done and Dusted.Ok.

JC will never, ever be leader. He's embarrassed Carl too much. The labour movement are already making plans to remove him. Everett will be taking over the group forthwith.

He's well and truly over reached himself. big surprise is why people took so long to realise what a liability he is to any party.

A total disgrace. Anglesey Council is so rubbish that it has now successfully made a total eejit of itself for years AND made a fool of the Assembly as well.

Big society idea: scrap the Council altogether, make statutory services their own authorities and let the public run everything else. From what I see on this blog, the people have much more constructive, forward-looking ideas than the pathetic school yard antics of our tinpot councillors.

Photon, I can't agree with you on that one. The statutory service authorities would then need some kind of board to run them and you'd only get the same people on them. As for the public or community running the non statutory ones that's unlikely to work as well. A community co-op running economic development? I thought we had that in the shape of menter Môn already.

Last Chance Saloon - bollocks

The commisioners wont come in because Bowles would look to be a failure. His mate Paddy Gibbons cant allow that to happen because Paddy himself would look a fool.

Its got to a point where the WAG just cannot admit that he was not worth £270k.

They talk about making cuts and staff losing jobs. Get rid of Bowles and the corrupt senior officers he`s so desperate to protect and everyone else`s job would be safe.

My name is Sophie Parry and I live in Water Street, Holyhead and I have been reading about Gwynfor Pierce`s grant problems on the Photon Blog.I know Gwynfor and want people to know that my grandmother had a grant about six years ago, she had the same agent and builder and she has been unable to live in her house since. She eats and spends all day in my autie`s house and only goes home to sleep because of the bad work left by the builder. All the work was passed by the Council but everytime she decorates the damp comes throgh the walls up to half way up. She hasnt got the money to fix the problems and has been bacwards and forwards to the solicitors for years. The Councillor for Maes y Haf has done nothing to help and the Council say it is not their fault. I want people to know because it isnt fair on my gran.

We should have known from the start that WAG was bluffing about sending the Commissioners to actually administer IACC, it was never going to happen, It was a threat, an empty bluff. All they did was pretend to wield the big stick...it did not work, for all the expense of them and their comical chair.
I say again, only a dissolution of the Council, and an election, and a ban on all existing councillors from standing, will cure this cancer upon us.
Shame on all 40 of you.

"I say again, only a dissolution of the Council, and an election, and a ban on all existing councillors from standing, will cure this cancer upon us."

I totally disagree with the last suggestion.. However councillors may behave together, some of them are doing excellent work in their own community for their own constituents

Anonymous said...

9.11 Thank you, but you hit the nail on the head......it is precisely because of "how they behave together" as you put it, that we are in this mess today, notwithstanding some good work that they may do in their own Wards.
They simply can't work together collectively, see ?

Anonymous said...

However disappointed I am with my own Councillor, I have to agree with 09.11 some of them are doing ex work.

Keep up the good work Barrie.

Dear Sophie Parry,

Your message was very humbling, the best person to help you and your nain would be Photon he has got an excellent article about the grant's abuse on Anglesey, your article is indicative of the horrendous state we are all having to put up with, the real supporters for an inquiry into these abuses of power and corruption are on Photon blog site. The druid tries but can't help, too many people on the take and on the make, and when we mention the Anglesey Cake, people are too frightened to speak up, your a very brave girl and your nain should be very proud of you.

The real Anglesey People are behind you and wish you and your nain well.

In Anglesey the Council affects the children too.......stop hurting and abusing children.

Dear Sophie Parry.
If you need someone to look in to your grandmothers Grant Problems in earnest, who will leave no stone unturned, Contact Councillor Barrie Durkin,
His telephone number is.

If we stick together we can do this, we can help the victims, and answer their prayers, the more we help, the weaker the abusers will become...
There seems to be only one Councillor that the people can turn to, what about the rest? Why are they hiding their faces? Oh the shame of the rest of them, when we only have ONE willing to help, and that's to help a child who wants to help her nain, shame on you all.

County Councillor Barrie Durkin said...

Dear Sophie
Out of all the cases I have dealt with since becoming a County Councillor in 2008, Your Grandmothers makes me trully ashamed to call myself a County Councillor.

Please give me a ring on 01248 689182.

This problem that this young lady and her nain has suffered is the standard way of life that we have had to put up with for too bloody long.

We read everyday, the bad attitude of the Council and the way it behaves towards the people of Anglesey, in this case there is a grand daughter fighting for the rights of her own grandmother, whose home has been blighted and ruined by an unscrupulous Council, who walks away after ruining lives, and they are UNNACOUNTABLE, COUNCILLOR DURKIN, these public servants are UNNACCOUNTABLE, this is what DISGUSTS US ALL.

This Council just doesn't CARE, and doesn't even have a DUTY OF CARE towards any of us ANYMORE.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't say it's not fair, Sophie, I would say it's another disgraceful episode in the day to day running of this horrible excuse for a Council, shameful indeed, they should all come round and investigate, but as usual we can only depend on one Councillor to help.

Disgusted to be Welsh.

9.34. We are agreed as to the problem, but the proposal to ignore the wishes of Ynys Mon residents, and to exclude their elected representatives from standing in future, may not achieve resolution of the problem, and is likely to cause a thousand more.

1041 If by "one councillor", you mean the one who has here promised to help Sophie - to whom, well done for courage - I can assure you that this brings the number to three - but I don't thin k that it helps the situation to bandy about names of Good and/or Bad, so will refrain

Anonymous said...

3 is better than 1 on his own, let's get the truth out, why should a child post a blog here asking for help on her way to school? It's a disgrace, a public one, I hope the media get a grip on this story, it's so embarassing. Don't tell me, that the rest of the Councillors are in the cake today?

Anonymous said...

It appears that the standards we expect are in the gutter.

Anonymous said...

Out of 40 councillors only 3 are willing to help, so that means the rest all 37 of them aren't bothered.
I wonder what their excuse will be?
Let me think.

Not my patch.
Not my problem.
Simple.

You are there to help US,help!

And not forgetting this elderly lady whose son sent this e.mail to Mr Isherwood and PWC on 29 September 2010.

The Ombudsman also refused to investigate this case.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I send you a brief email to confirm to you that the similar underhand actions by so called professionals has also occurred on my mothers (Mrs name) housing grant project. We still feel very strongly about this and these people need to be brought to task. We have documentary proof that the agent (Agents name) council officials and the builder colluded to blackmail, defraud and pay grant on substandard grant funded work. I understand these are serious allegations but someone somewhere needs to stop this ever happening again.

I know of two other projects that similar irregularities occurred on.

My mother wished she had never began the process of using the council grant she is 65 years of age and still has the pressure of paying a mortgage. Her health suffered during this fiasco and still effects her mentally to this day. Our story is a long one but its worth listening to because these people need to brought to justice.

We feel that we need to raise this point as Mr Gwynfor Pierce experience is not and isolated one. Please feel free to contact myself (Name on number).

In anticipation

OPEN LETTER TO IEYAN WYN JONES AM
and Albert Owen MP.

Dear all,

Today, on this blog site, a young schoolgirl, wrote a poignant letter, describing in sordid details the housing condition her, nain, has been left with after interference and bad workmanship, approved, signed sealed and delivered by the Local Authority that represents us.

We all know that standards here are really poor, but when a child writes and pleads for help, it doesn't go unnoticed, when no-one listens and no one wants to know.

We need you two, as our political leaders, and I think leader is a bit too strong a word for you two, I'll start again, we need you two, to get off your arses and investigate this affair, forget your diary for today, forget your diary for tomorrow, we want to know what you are both going to do about this serious problem. If you can't do it, then we will know that as a race, as a people, we are really on our own.

A voter, a tax payer, a really pissed off person.

Anonymous said...

Another black day for the people of Anglesey, no wonder we are living under a very dark shadow.
Terrible, ashamed to be Welsh and ashamed of what has happened.

Anonymous said...

I think someone needs to help, they are now interferring in a child's life now. Is there no end to their actions, where is Paddy French?, where is the BBC?, where is taro post?

I think we have NO FAITH IN THIS COUNCIL ANYMORE. To do this to a child is unforgivable, a disgusting affair.

Is anyone in the Welsh Assembly reading these posts about a child? No, too busy, doing nothing.

Anonymous said...

The case brought up below by Sophie is very serious indeed but can the person multiply posting stop it. Its obvious its one person posting over and over and spamming like this isnt going to help sophie.

Anonymous said...

All of these posts I find distressing, there is no solution for apathy.

We are looking at you Druid, to see what you would do, have you been in touch with the media? You know, you should, at the end of the day, a child posted a blog, a serious issue was raised, and I sincerly hope that action is being taken, if you haven't your credibility as a candidate is in serious doubt. Have the media been in touch with you?, please elaborate and let us know as we are getting angry now.

post 13: 50 the answer is no, I will speak my mind whether you like it or not...

Prometheuswrites said...

At the risk of sounding moralising (again) I have to say that if something is worth saying it's worth saying once.

Repetitions, (by serial posting) only dilute the force of the message. (Of course if all these posts are from different people then ignore what I'm saying).

Shooting off on limited information doesn't help - (for instance) - Is Sophie's Nain the same as 'the Owen family'? - It would help to be clear regarding how many different cases there are.

I'm not saying don't bring these cases forward for public scrutiny, just please stick to the facts and don't use emotional arguments.

Solid facts, a sound rational argument and a passion for justice will carry the day - eventually.

Is this young lady a "child" as is made out ?

THE GRANTS ISSUE ?
It seems obvious to me (as a building professional) that what IACC should do is employ an independent external expert to look at each complaint and report impartially on -
1. The administration of each application.
2. The costings,
3. The quality of the work,
4. Compliance with the spec. and regs,
5. Adequacy of supervision
6. Evidence of fraud ?
Simple !

Anonymous said...

It's time for a reality check, Druid, some of us prefer action to words, what is being done?

Anonymous said...

I am fully aware of Sophie's Grandmother's plight as we live back to back.

Remarkably we are talking about the same Builder, Agent and Grant Official's that delivered Gwynfor Pierce's Grant.

Believe it or not, Mrs Parry had to notify the Council that the Builder installed double glazed units that opened the wrong way.

What is significant is the fact that the Council passed this work in the first place and certified payment.

The Grants Issue.
Who is the portfolio holder for housing grants ?
That is the person who gets paid an allowance, and SHOULD sort out this mess.
Who ??
